SOUTH AUSTRALIAN VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADES ASSOCIATION (SAVFBA)

VIRTUES OF A

CFS VOLUNTEER

The eight-pointed star is the traditional insignia of the SA Country Fire Service (CFS), formerly known as the Emergency Fire Service (EFS).

The star is not unique to the CFS as it is recognised by fire services all over the world.

It is otherwise referred to as the Cross of Saint John which originally emerged from the Maltese Cross.

Used by the Knights of Saint John during the Crusades in Jerusalem, the points on the Maltese Cross represented eight different virtues of Knighthood:

•    Tact
•    Loyalty
•    Dexterity
•    Observation
•    Sympathy
•    Explicitness
•    Gallantry
•    Perseverance

Over time, firefighters have adopted these same virtues bringing about a commonality between fire services all over the world.

In most cases the only difference between fire service insignias is the centrepiece, which is specific to the organisation.

The CFS Star is seen on the official uniform worn by volunteers and staff.

However, the CFS also has a corporate logo, which represents the State in Australia in which it serves and is displayed on all vehicles and infrastructure.

Origin

Origin a Major Sponsor of the CFSVA since 2008

Origin LPG are pleased to sponsor the CFSVA for a fourth consecutive year. Our South Australian team live and work in the local area and we’re grateful for the essential service that the CFSVA provide to the community. Through our sponsorship we feel we can help support the volunteers that support our business and this is very important to us.

Additional Support at Brigade Level

In addition to sponsoring the CFSVA, we are pleased to announce a fundraising program intended to drive funding to individual CFS brigades. Initially launching in the Onkaparinga brigades in region 1, it involves contributing funds to local brigades upon receiving orders from new and existing customers in the region.

For new customers we will contribute $25 to the local Adelaide Hills brigade (Oakbank/ Balhannah, Lenswood, Forest Range, Woodside and Lobethal CFS) when they sign up for Origin LPG through the local authorised dealer, Lenswood Gas.

We will contribute a further $5 per cylinder for every order placed after signing up.

If you’re already a Lenswood Gas customer we’ll still contribute $5 when you register your interest in the program and $5 per cylinder for your ongoing orders.

While the Onkaparinga brigades and Lenswood Gas are the first region to take part in this sponsorship offer, we are looking to extend this arrangement into other regions in South Australia later this year and into next year.

If you use LPG for Cooking, Heating or Hot Water and want to support your local brigade, give us a call.

Origin provides a LPG cylinder exchange delivery service (drop-off and pick-up service) and a tanker fill service for customers with larger LPG needs. In addition, the local community also has the support of Origin LPG Authorised Dealer network.

To order or for more information call Lenswood Gas on 8939 8400 or visit www.originlpg.com.au/community for more details and our terms and conditions.
